"A Worthy and Impressive Collection:
Here we have 16 standalone stories, each individual, none reliant on others, and each with interesting twists – the author has the ability to constantly surprise his reader. Very good use is made of the gradual build up of tension, an obvious example of this being Fourth Person Singular, which was one of my personal favourites.
(5 star Amazon Review from Top 10 (Canada)/#1 Hall of Fame reviewer, Brett Hassell )
Brilliant Collection of Sci Fi - Horror:
The problem with short stories is that you have to get the context pretty quick to be able to engage with the plot. This often means that no sooner are you up to speed than the whole thing is over. Dale manages to avoid this by easing the reader into every situation; revealing enough just to keep you hooked. The other amazing thing is I managed to empathise with nigh on all of the characters – and there are quite a few to get to know. This is a ‘page turner’ and whilst that statement may be justifiably called a cliché – there is nothing here that is. I am a fan of the John Wyndham type of Sci- Fi and this is very close to that indeed whilst also managing to have enough vibrance and originality to be all its own.
I got through this in pretty short time but that was because it is so accessible, I was also not horrified but moreover fascinated with the imagination that Mr Sproule manages to bring to his work and despite the subject matter I found this a really enjoyable and well written collection – very much recommended.

"An Undiscovered Masterpiece...not just one of the best Kindle books I have read, but one of the best books full stop.
(5 star Amazon Review from R.D. Hale)
...a selection of stories heavily rooted in psychological terror rather than your normal blood and guts horror. Sproule writes this style very well and each story left me wanting more, and not wanting to be ripped out of the world that he had just introduced me to.

ABOUT THE BOOK: 16 stories including five new to this volume. These include: "Fourth Person Singular" - Harrowing and Faulkneresque have both been used to describe this story of two boys growing up in the 1960s with a very scary dad. Ed Bryant compared it to Shirley Jackson and it was selected for Year's Best Horror the year Karl Wagner died (so it never actually appeared there). "The Onion Test" - an envelope pushing sf/horror that appeared in Pulphouse the Hardback Magazine issue #1. "Memory Games" from Tesseracts 5 was nominated for an Aurora Award. "Touching the Screams" is post-apocalyptic sf with a horror twist wherein horror movie monsters from our times are used to cement the faith of the masses who are still ignorant of re-emerging technology. And there's considerable humour including "Labour Relations" (from Ellery Queens Mystery Magazine) the Lovecraftian "Flushed" and the just plain weird "Showdown in Kitschtown"
